Why We Exist

The story behind ErgoLife Foundation’s mission to end preventable desk pain.

We Started With a Simple Question

Your back hurts, your neck is stiff, and you are pretty sure your office chair is winning. We have been there too. ErgoLife Foundation started because we kept seeing the same thing: smart, capable people spending 8+ hours a day at a desk who had no idea their setup was making things worse.

The science on desk ergonomics is clear. Small changes — adjusting your chair height, taking movement breaks, learning how to sit properly — can dramatically reduce pain. But nobody teaches you this. Not in school, not at your job, not at the doctor’s office.

We believe that has to change. When you understand the basics, you can make changes that genuinely reduce your pain. Our job is to make that knowledge free and easy to find, no matter who you are or what you can afford.

The Problem We Solve

Think about your day. You sit at a desk for 8 hours, sit in your car to get home, and sit on the couch to decompress. The average American logs over 10 hours of sitting a day — and our bodies were not built for that.

619M people worldwide deal with chronic back pain — and the number rises every year

The toll is real: chronic back pain, stiff necks, tight hips, and posture problems that creep up slowly and then do not go away. In the U.S., back pain is the leading cause of disability for people under 45. And most of it is preventable.

When you show someone that a 5-minute stretch break every hour can cut their pain risk nearly in half, they actually do it. Information changes behavior — but only if people can get to it. That is why everything we make is free. Not “free with a catch.” Free.

Our Approach

Three steps to lasting change. Every program we run follows this framework.

Educate

Free workshops, guides, and blog content built on peer-reviewed research. We teach the science in plain language so you can understand what is actually going on with your body.

Empower

Tools and knowledge to change daily habits. Free ergonomic consultations, personalized checklists, and workspace assessments that give you specific, actionable changes.

Sustain

Community support and ongoing resources. Stretch routines, posture reminders, and group check-ins so the changes stick long after the workshop ends.

What We Stand For

Science-Based

Every guide and program is built on published research, reviewed by certified ergonomists and medical professionals. When the science changes, we update our advice.

Always Free

No paywalls, no upsells, no “free with a catch.” We are a nonprofit funded by donations and grants. Every resource we create stays free forever.

Community-Driven

We go into workplaces, schools, and communities to teach in person — especially in places where people cannot afford a $500 ergonomic consultation.

Radically Transparent

If we recommend something, it is because the evidence supports it. See our research page and financials for full transparency.

How We Are Different

We do not start with a product and work backward to justify it. Our advice comes from published research — reviewed by certified ergonomists and medical professionals. If a guide recommends a product, it is because the evidence supports it, not because someone paid us to say so.

We work with physical therapists, ergonomic researchers, and occupational health professionals to make sure our advice is grounded in actual science, not wellness trends. And we do not just publish articles and hope for the best. We go into workplaces, schools, and communities to teach this stuff in person.

Join the Movement

If you are reading this at your desk right now, shifting around because your lower back aches — you are exactly who we built this for.
